Hotel Teatro

Hotel Teatro exterior

Denver, Colorado, USA
The great outdoors is never greater than in Colorado. But if you're not in peak condition don't worry: you can get that Rocky Mountain 'high' without leaving your hotel.

first impressions
If Denver is the Mile High City, then the Hotel Teatro is its Mile High Club: daring, sexy and ultra-exclusive. Critics say it's one of the top 500 best hotels in the world, but that's not quite fair: it's far, far better than that.

Set in vibrant downtown, the Teatro was once the city's Tramway Tower (hence the 'T's on the terracotta facade) and housed offices for the Denver Tramway Corporation. Following extensive renovations, it re-opened as a 110-bedroom 5-star boutique hotel a decade ago. Named for its proximity to the Denver Performing Arts Center, the Teatro is decorated like a giant stage set, complete with playbills, posters, photogrpahs, props, costimes and even masks from past productions - it's no surprise visiting movie stars feel so at home here.

bedrooms
One word: plush. Hand-carved cherry-wood beds with thick, feather mattresses and silk coverings, damask linens and homemade cushions, come as standard - as does a huge flat-screen TV and DVD player. En-suite Indonesian marble bathrooms - complete with a range of compimentary Aveda bath products - also boast a plasma screen TV and a deep soaking tub. Should the need arise, a laser printer, scanner, copier, fax machine and free wireless broadband come with your own built-in home offce.

Junior suites have separate sitting room and an additional bathroom, while the Chancellor's Suite has wood panels and a limestone fireplace. Better still, the Apartment has a dining room seating up to eight, a kitchen, sitting room, and a DVD and book library.

food and drink
The Teatro has two restaurants, run by award-winning chef, Kevin Taylor. Restaurant Kevin Taylor, the more formal of the two with French cuisine, has won a host of awards including the AAA Four Diamond, Mobil Travel Guide Four Star award, and the Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence. It's little wonder Taylor calls this place his "pride and joy". Across the foyer is Prima Ristorante, - good for Italian-style breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

service with a smile?
Absolutely. You'll be made to feel like a million bucks - even if you haven't got it. The hotel goes to extraordinary lengths to cater for guests' needs. They'll happily drop you off anywhere in the city for free in a Cadillac. But it doesn't stop there: bellboys will even take your dog (welcome at the hotel) for a walk in the nearby park.

local attractions
Downtown Denver has something for everyone. There are local shops, theatres, restaurants, bars and cafes. But this is Colorado, and it's all about heart-warming - or heart-stopping - adventures in the nearby Rocky Mountains. The concierge desk can arrange excursions such as mountain biking, hiking or horse riding. If the urge takes you, they also take guided runs around the city every morning from 10am.

will it break the bank?
No. Rates start at around $250. Special packages are also available, details of which can be found on their website.
