Roosevelt Hotel

Roosevelt exterior

New York, New York, USA
It's the city that never sleeps, but don't let that ruin a good night's rest.

first impressions
This vintage Manhattan landmark has been serving-up a three-star slice of the Big Apple since 1924. Occupying an entire block on Madison Avenue and 45th Street, the 1,015-bedroom Roosevelt is to NYC what Harrods is to London: an institution. In fact, it's no wonder locals know her as 'The Dame' - she's entertained the rich and famous for decades. Just stepping through the revolving doors into the vast, grand lobby, is like a history lesson where you're transported back to the grandeur of old New York. But The Roosevelt doesn't dwell in the past, and has the modern amenities - and awards - to prove it.

Rooms are spacious and well decorated, with city views, double beds, sofa chair, desk and huge TVs as standard. Better still, they come with all the creature comforts of home, including climate control, hairdryers, irons and cable television.

There's also telephones with voice messaging, and high-speed internet access in every room (broadband wireless is also available in the lobby), so you can keep in touch with loved ones - or loathed bosses - without leaving the hotel.

Roosevelt bedroom

En-suite bathrooms come with deep tubs, power-showers, and marble surfaces throughout.

Of the 52 suites, the Presidential is the biggest, with 3,900 square feet and eight rooms, including two bedrooms, kitchen, dinging room, and terrace with panoramic views of the city.

food and drink
NYC is renowned for its wide selection of food - and the Roosevelt is no exception. The Roosevelt Grill, with its white-gloved waiters and starched linens, serves-up breakfast, lunch and dinner in a 1920s-style restaurant.

Be sure to try executive chef Scott Rossi's specials of Chicken Dumpling Soup and Organic Salmon. Parents take note: there's also a children's menu available on request.

Cooking classes are also available.

Head to the Madison Club Lounge, decorated in fine wood panelling, for a Starbucks coffee, or something a little stronger. Don't worry - you can work it off the following morning in the 24-hour Fitness Center.

service with a smile?
New Yorkers, like Londoners, are famous for their hospitality. And rightly so. Here, reception staff are on hand 24/7, and will happily meet guests' special needs. Meanwhile, the concierge hail cabs, book theatre tickets, and arrange mobile (cell) phone rentals and restaurant reservations. They can also be contacted in advance if you have any special requests.

local attractions
Think you've seen all the Big Apple has to offer? Think again. New Yorkers say you need two lifetimes to experience everything the city has to offer. There's something here to suit any taste and budget: shows on Broadway, baseball games with the Yankees, concerts at the NY Philharmonic, rock shows at Madison Square Garden, views from the Empire State, sports in Central Park - not to mention shopping on Fifth Avenue. The list continues....

will it break the bank?
No - room rates start from around $159 per night. There are also several theatre packages available.
